IGNOU Assignments – Instructions
Every student at IGNOU, no matter what course they are admitted to, should complete the assignments given to them to achieve their course. IGNOU assignments are essential as they would help you advance for higher studies or choose a suitable career.
Assignments are to be taken very seriously as IGNOU TEE assignments have a weightage of 30% on your grade card. Without completing and submitting your assignments before the due date, you cannot attend A minimum of 40% must be scored to be eligible to fill the exam form to appear for the TEE examination. A good amount of research must be conducted to complete IGNOU assignments as the university won’t accept copied answers. Students cannot copy their assignments from other students from reference books, units, or blocks. Students can use the resources and reading material available in the libraries at their respective regional centre, head office or the digital library (eGyanKosh) provided by IGNOU. While preparing IGNOU assignments, it is crucial to add all the necessary details of the student, course, subject and type of assignments on the front page. This will make the job of the faculties at IGNOU easier and increase your chances of being awarded top marks.
The front page of the assignment must include the following details.
- Study Centre Code
- Programme
- Enrolment No (9 digits)
- Name (Full Name)
- Course Code
- Course Title
- Session
- Address
- Telephone/Mobile No.
- Email ID
- Date of Submission
- Candidate Signature

Instructions for preparing IGNOU assignments
After preparing the front page, you can prepare your assignment based on the topic given to you. Here are some essential points to keep in mind before preparing your assignment –
- IGNOU Assignments and TEE sessions should only be written in blue or black ink colour pen.
- Assignments should always be hand-written and not printed. Printed assignments are strictly prohibited.
- IGNOU assignment should be written on an A4 size sheet or a foolscap size blank paper. Ruled sheets of the A4 sizes are also permitted.
- Write your assignment as neatly as possible to ensure top marks.
- Students cannot copy their assignments from other students, from any reference books, units or blocks.
- If the assignment contains questions to be answered, write the correct question number and the answer.
- IGNOU assignments for each course must be presented separately and not in one set.
- The assignments must be submitted neatly in a paper file, and IGNOU does not permit the use of a plastic file.
- The documents should be arranged properly.
- Candidates must submit their IGNOU assignment to the coordinator of the allotted study centre.
- If you have applied for a change in study centre and you haven’t received a confirmation yet, submit your IGNOU assignment to the original study centre to which you were allotted. Otherwise, you can submit it to your new study centre.
- Earlier IGNOU assignments had to be submitted personally. But due to Covid-19 restrictions, students were allowed to send their assignments online or via mail. This provision will only be available for a limited time, and more updates are yet to come.
- While submitting your assignment, ensure to collect the receipt.
- When the coordinator receives your assignment, an acknowledgement of receipt will be sent to your respective study centre.
We request all students to read these instructions carefully before submitting IGNOU assignment so that the university can accept it and you can score good marks. We will be updating the students as soon as any new announcements come from IGNOU.
